#32 - Slowing down for a reason
I’ve been rather quiet for the past couple of weeks. As you will have noticed by now, I’m very motivated to start some pretty amazing adventures. But since I started from scratch early 2025, making all those plans can be pretty overwhelming as well. I can hardly believe what I achieved already, and that allows me to dream. I’m doing things already, I couldn’t even imagine just 6 months ago. Those first 30 Km on the trike felt like a big win. And yet, Doing more then 130 km in one go a little while ago, didn’t even feel as a limit. It made me wonder what’s really possible. So that means I started planning my first big multi day ride. I have been plotting such rides for months now, and I kept making them longer and longer. Only limited by my imagination.
While my imagination may have no limits, I’m sure my body won’t agree. There will be a point where it asks me to very kindly to stop the torture. To hold back a bit.
To avoid a big crash, it’s important to make the steps forward small enough, so my body can adapt. That’s also a reason I took it easy for the past couple of weeks. Hardly any riding the trike, instead I was doing more work around the house. At the same time, I allowed myself some treats I didn’t have in a while, but I kept eating healthy in general. And I was rewarded for that time off. Over the past month, I kept my weight about the same, while I lost fat and gained muscle. Around 2 kg each. Not bad for having a break. I also needed that break to stay motivated. While I really enjoy my healthy food, sometimes the call of fastfood or a nice ice cream on a scorching hot day is just too much. The ice cream was low-sugar by the way, and I had some melon with it.
The trike will be packed to the limit
But now, the break comes to an end. While me going on a Holliday for the next couple of weeks may make It harder to eat healthy, I’ll have to compensate with more excercise. But I will be focussed on my blood glucose again full time. And then, I want to go… Go for a ride… Far away. Reaching the horizon, time after time. I’ve been planning this ride for a week now. It’s designed to bring me back to places I visited during past holidays in the Netherlands. I’m not telling you yet where it will take me, or the exact places I plan to visit. But the general idea is to ride at least 100 km each day, and to carry everything I need on the road. Food, water, camping gear, clothes…
Everything. I plan to be on the road for 4 to 6 days, depending on the conditions. I’ll have limited access to electricity, so I’m not really sure about how much I’ll be able to tell you guys in real time, but in any case, I plan one or more lengthy posts on the website In any case, You’ll be able to follow in real time on my instagram as usual. I’ll also be posting there during my holiday, especially since I will be taking the trike along for the ride.
For now,
stay healthy,
stay happy,
and thank you so much for following my adventures on the website and my socials.
